
Sat 2 Jun Late afternoon arrival in Bergen and transfer to the 3.5-star Augustin Hotel, located in the centre. This evening we take the funicular railway to the top of Fløyen, one of the seven mountains surrounding Bergen, to enjoy a welcome dinner with spectacular views across the city.
Sun 3 Jun Today your guide will introduce you to the sights of the city including the Bryggen water front, a maze of characteristic buildings with pointed gables, and the Old Bergen Museum, with examples of local architecture through the ages. We continue our tour at Greig’s home, Troldhaugen by the shore of Lake Nordaas. Afternoon concert at the Haakonshallen, a medieval hall in the centre of Bergen. Evening at leisure.
Mon 4 Jun This morning we visit Lysoen, the ‘Isle of Light’ with its summer residence built for the Norwegian violin-virtuoso Ole Bull in 1873. The 175-acre island property was transformed into a fairy-tale kingdom with romantic paths ponds and gazebos made by planting exotic trees and bushes in the native pine forest. Afternoon at leisure before the evening concert at the Haakonshallen.
Tue 5 Jun Full-day excursion to visit some of the most spectacular places in western Norway. We take a ferry through the spectacular, UNESCO listed, Naeroyfjord to Flåm for lunch, then the Flåm mountain railway to Myrdal, which descends 2845 feet in less than 1 hour with breathtaking views over the valley. Return to Bergen for the evening performance.
