An autumn visit to the wonderful city of Budapest offers a chance to enjoy operas from the renowned Hungarian State Opera. In October the Opera presents Beethoven’s Fidelio and Duke Bluebeard’s Castle by Hungarian national composer Bartók.


Fri 16 Oct Midday arrival in Budapest and transfer to the 5-star Hotel Sofitel Budapest, on the banks of the Danube. Afternoon at leisure. In the evening enjoy a welcome dinner cruise along the romantic Danube.

Sat 17 Oct Join your guide for a morning tour of Budapest, taking in many of the most important sights. On Castle Hill we visit the colourful Matthias Church decorated in frescoes, and see the fairy-tale Fisherman’s Bastion, as well as the house of Bartók in the Buda hills. Returning to the Pest side of the city, we visit St Stephen’s Basilica containing the Hungarians’ most revered relic: the mummified right hand of Hungary’s first monarch, King Saint Stephen. Lunch is served in a local restaurant. Afternoon at leisure before the evening performance.

Sun 18 Oct Today we visit the former apartment of Liszt, seeing a fascinating collection of his personal possessions including his favourite piano. We continue to the Hungarian Parliament building for a visit of the spectacular interior. Lunch in a local restaurant. Afternoon at leisure. Evening performance at the State Opera House.

Mon 19 Oct Late morning transfer to the airport for your homeward flight.
