Macerata Opera Festival

28 Jul - 1 August 2011

Arena di Sferisterio, Macerata
A return to the small hill-town of Macerata, situated between the Adriatic coast and the Appennine mountains in the charming Marche region of Italy. This year we visit for two Verdi operas in the magnificent Sferisterio, a 19th-century games arena, and Mozart's Così fan tutte in the intimate Teatro Lauro Rossi.

Itinerary
Thu 28 Jul Late afternoon arrival in Bologna and transfer to Macerata in the region of Le Marche (approx 3 hours). Welcome dinner in a local restaurant en-route. On arrival check in at the 4-star Hotel Claudiani in the centre of Macerata.

Fri 29 Jul This morning join your guide for a walking tour of medieval Macerata. Highlights include the basilica, the Duomo and the beautiful baroque Teatro Lauro Rossi. Afternoon at leisure. Evening performance at the Arena Sferisterio.

Sat 30 Jul Today we take a day excursion to Assisi in neighbouring Umbria, where we visit the Upper and Lower Basilicas decorated by wonderful frescoes including Giotto’s depiction of the life of St Francis.
