Operatic Odyssey in Iceland

14 - 18 March 2012

Reykjavik
Enjoy the last of the winter with a trip to Iceland in all it's seasonal glory, covered in snow and of course, ice! We visit Reykjavik for two performances at the brand-new Harpa Concert Hall on the shoreline; a concert of Mozart and the premiere of The Icelandic Opera's La bohème. This tour is on request due to the short selling-time - please get in touch with us immediately to express your interest.

Itinerary

Wed 14 Mar Afternoon arrival at Keflavik airport, and transfer to the 4-star Radisson BLU Saga Hotel, located in a quiet area of the city and a short walk from the seashore and the city's popular museums and attractions. Welcome dinner in the hotel restaurant.

Thu 15 Mar
Join your guide this morning for a tour of Reykjavik. We visit the harbour area, the Asmundur Sculpture Museum, Kjarvalsstaoir Art Museum and the landmark of the city, Hallgrims Church. Afternoon at leisure. In the evening transfer to the Harpa Concert Hall for the performance.

Fri 16 Mar Today we take a day excursion to the ‘Golden Circle’, which stops by the magnificent Gulfoss waterfall and the Geysir geothermal area, with an abundance of hot springs, pools of bubbling mud and exploding geysers! The tour ends at the Þinghvellir National Park, the site of the oldest existing parliament in the world. There the great Atlantic rift is clearly visible, that which is pulling Iceland slowly apart along tectonic plates. Lunch is included in a local restaurant. Transfer to the evening performance at the Harpa (or free evening if the performance is scheduled tomorrow).

Sat 17 Mar This morning a guided tour of the new Harpa Concert Hall is arranged, which will tell you all about the beautiful glass facade made by Olafur Eliasson, the architecture, the different floors and the different halls. Afternoon at leisure - we recommend visiting the famous Blue Lagoon thermal spa for some relaxation time! Transfer to the evening performance at the Harpa (or free evening if the performance was scheduled yesterday).

Sun 18 Mar Free morning for last-minute shopping and sightseeing. Afternoon transfer to Keflavik airport for your homeward journey.
