The Puccini Festival

The ever-popular Puccini Festival in Torre del Lago provides a welcome date in our summer opera programme. Performances include new productions of Madama Butterfly and La bohème, together with the current production of Turandot. This year we also make a visit to Florence for a Tuscan holiday to remember.


Wed 10 Aug Afternoon arrival in Pisa and transfer to Lucca to check in at the 4-star superior Hotel San Luca Palace, located in the centre of the town, birthplace of Puccini, and just 40 minutes from Torre del Lago where the festival takes place. Welcome drink in the hotel.

Thu 11 Aug Morning walking tour of Lucca, its charming churches, palaces and streets built within Renaissance city walls. We visit the Piazza Anfiteatro, constructed on the site of a Roman theatre, and visit the 13th century Duomo and the Pisan Romanesque church of San Michele in Foro with an eccentric façade of twisted columns. Welcome lunch in a local restaurant. Afternoon at leisure. Transfer to the evening’s performance at the Puccini Festival’s theatre.

Fri 12 Aug Today we transfer to Florence for an extended tour of the historical city, dominated by the vast Duomo with its dome by Brunelleschi, and home to many treasures from the Renaissance period. Lunch is included in a local restaurant. In the afternoon return to Pisa to prepare for your evening transfer to Torre del Lago.

Sat 13 Aug Morning at leisure for independent exploration of Lucca. After an independent lunch we transfer to Torre del Lago to visit Puccini’s villa on the shore of Lake Massaciuccoli. We continue on to dinner in a local restaurant before this evening’s performance.

Sun 14 Aug Morning at leisure. Late morning transfer to Pisa airport for your homeward journey.
