The Ring In New York

3 - 13 May 2012

Die Walküre © Ken Howard
Robert Lepage’s complete production of Der Ring des Nibelungen is the first new Ring at the Metropolitan Opera in over 20 years, and according to the Met’s publicity will be the most ambitious staging that they have ever attempted. With a cast of the greatest Wagnerian singers, and under the baton of James Levine, tickets for The Ring are in great demand across the world. We have also added a complementary sightseeing programme which includes the opportunity to meet some of the local Wagner afficionados, as well as plenty of free time for you to make the most of this once-in-a-lifetime trip.

Itinerary

Thu 3 May Early evening arrival in New York and transfer to the stylish 4-star Warwick Hotel located in mid-town Manhattan, close to the Museum of Modern Art and Carnegie Hall. Check in to your ‘Deluxe’ room before welcome drinks and canapés are served in the hotel bar.

Fri 4 May Join your guide this morning for a tour of Manhattan which will focus on the history of the Metropolitan Opera and its journey through different locations in the city. Lunch is included in a local restaurant. In the afternoon take a private backstage tour of The Metropolitan Opera which will include a ‘question and answer’ session with an opera singer from the company. Evening at leisure.

Sat 5 May This morning is at leisure. In the afternoon make your own way to the famous Mandarin Oriental Hotel, centrally located on Columbus Circle and with breathtaking views of Central Park, where you will enjoy afternoon tea with champagne. Return to the hotel by coach to prepare for the first evening performance at the Metropolitan Opera (group transfer by coach).

Afternoon at leisure before your transfer from the hotel to the early evening performance.

Thu 10 May This morning join your guide to tour the Cathedral Church of St John the Divine & the Cloisters, before a light lunch at a local restaurant.
