Dresden’s sumptuous Semperoper hosts their full Ring Cycle in March. First seen in 2001-2003, Willy Decker’s production features an eminent cast, including Alan Titus as Wotan and Evelyn Herlitzius as Brünnhilde.


Tue 9 Mar Afternoon arrival in Berlin and transfer to Dresden (approx 2 hours) to check in at the 4-star Hilton Hotel, centrally located next to the Frauenkirche and only a few minutes walk from the Semperoper. Afternoon at leisure and welcome dinner in the hotel restaurant.

Wed 10 Mar Today we take a morning walking tour of the historic city, stunningly rebuilt since 1945. You may also choose to visit the New Green Vault, treasure trove of Augustus the Strong. Afternoon at leisure. Walk to the Semperoper for the first performance in the Ring cycle.

Thu 11 Mar Join your guide to visit Colditz Castle, originally built 950 years ago, and best known as a prisoner-of-war camp for Allied officers during World War II. It’s most famous inmate was Winston Churchill’s nephew. Colditz clay was also an essential ingredient of the famous Meissen porcelain. Lunch is included in a local restaurant. Return to Dresden for the rest of the day at leisure.

Fri 12 Mar Full day at leisure for you to make your own independent explorations of the city, or perhaps to enjoy some of the many museums which are open here. Afternoon performance at the Semperoper.

Sat 13 Mar Today we make our way by coach to Radebeul, to pick up the steam train to Moritzburg Hunting Lodge, replete with baroque furniture from Saxony and France, Japanese, Chinese and Meissen porcelain, as well as paintings by French, Italian and German 18th century artists. Return to Dresden after an included lunch for the optional evening performance.

Sun 14 Mar Full day at leisure. Afternoon performance at the Semperoper.

Mon 15 Mar An excursion to Meissen, the home of porcelain manufacture in Europe. After lunch in a local restaurant, we return to Dresden for the afternoon and optional evening performance.

Tue 16 Mar Day at leisure. Optional evening performance.

Wed 17 Mar Morning at leisure. Afternoon performance at the Semperoper.

Thu 18 Mar Transfer to Berlin for your afternoon homeward flight.
