A Viennese New Year

The Vienna State Opera is in its finest element for the traditional New Year gala performance of Die Fledermaus, as well as Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro. Our tour also offers the chance to attend the traditional New Year’s Eve concert at the Musikverein, for which tickets are highly sought-after.


Thu 29 Dec Lunchtime arrival in Vienna and transfer to either the 5-star Hotel Bristol or the 4-star Hotel Astoria (*subject to availability), both located close to the State Opera House. Some time free to settle in before a welcome drink in the hotel and the evening performance.

Fri 30 Dec This morning meet your guide for a journey through Vienna’s musical history, visiting the Cathedral (where Haydn was a choirboy, where Mozart was Music Director and where Vivaldi, Gluck and Salieri appear in the register of Deaths), the Mozarthaus and the State Opera Museum. The tour ends with a backstage tour of the Opera house. Welcome lunch in a local restaurant. Afternoon and evening at leisure.

Sat 31 Dec This morning we make our way through the Hofburg Palace to the Kunsthistorisches Museum to see the exhibition ‘Winter Tales’ which features depictions of winter in art through the paintings of Francisco de Goya, William Turner, Claude Monet and many others. The tour ends with refreshments in the imperial atmosphere of the café restaurant in the Museum. Afternoon free. Optional evening performance at the Musikverein. A New Year’s Eve Gala dinner will be served in the hotel.

Sun 1 Jan Today is free for you to make your own choice of activity. Evening performance at the State Opera.

Mon 2 Jan Morning at leisure. Transfer to Vienna airport for your homeward flight.
