Wagner In Budapest

Two Wagner operas are presented in the opulent State Opera in Budapest this winter; Das Rheingold and Tannhäuser. We combine these performances with a chance to visit some of the most renowned treasures of Hungary’s capital city which is all the more atmospheric and romantic in wintertime.

Itinerary
Thu 9 Feb Late afternoon arrival and transfer to the 4-star K+K Hotel Opera Budapest, in the heart of the city and next door to the State Opera. Welcome dinner in the hotel.

Fri 10 Feb Join your guide for a morning tour of Budapest, taking in many of the most important sights. On Castle Hill we visit the colourful Matthias Church decorated in frescoes, and see the fairy-tale Fisherman’s Bastion as well as many other treasures of the city. Afternoon at leisure before the evening performance.

Sat 11 Feb Today we visit the Franz Liszt Museum, a reconstruction of Liszt's last Budapest flat on the first floor of the old Academy of Music, where the composer lived between 1881 and 1886. The collection of the museum contains his original instruments, furniture, his books, scores and some personal objects and memorabilia. We continue to the Museum of Fine Arts to see the permanent collection of Old Masters, before lunch in a local restaurant. Afternoon at leisure. Optional evening ballet performance at the State Opera House.

Sun 12 Feb This morning our tour takes us to the Hungarian Parliament building for a visit of the spectacular interior. The afternoon is at leisure before the evening performances at the State Opera.

Mon 13 Feb Morning transfer to the airport for your homeward flight.
