In Wagner's Footsteps

This Easter tour visits Leipzig, Eisenach and new for this year, Bayreuth - all important centres in the life of Richard Wagner. In Leipzig we enjoy a performance of Parsifal at the State Oper, before taking a day trip to Bayreuth to see the main sights including the Margravial Opera House. The tour ends in Eisenach where we attend the annual semi-staged production of Tannhäuser, performed at UNESCO World Heritage site Wartburg Castle, situated above the town in the Thüringian forest.


Thu 5 Apr Afternoon arrival in Dresden and we continue to Leipzig (approx 2 hours) to check in at the 4-star Radisson Blu Hotel, within walking distance of the Opera house. Welcome dinner in a local restaurant.

Fri 6 Apr This morning we take a guided walking tour of Leipzig city centre, visiting the Market Square and Old City Hall, the famous St Thomas’ and St Nicholas’ Churches. We then take a guided tour of the famous Gewandhaus. Afternoon at leisure before the evening performance at the Opera.

Sat 7 Apr Today we take a tour to Bayreuth, home of the world-famous Richard Wagner Festival. A walking tour of the town includes a visit to the Margravial Opera House, followed by lunch. We then transfer to Eisenach, in the wooded countryside of Thüringia, to check in at the 4-star Schloss Hotel Eisenach. Free evening.

Sun 8 Apr Join your guide to explore Eisenach, which boasts a wealth of museums and notable sites, including Bach’s House, Luther’s House and the market square. The early afternoon is at leisure before your guided tour of Wartburg Castle, the setting for Wagner’s Tannhäuser. Early evening performance in the festival hall at the Castle.

Mon 9 Apr Morning at leisure. Transfer to Frankfurt airport for your homeward flight.
